20 Dating Tips for Baby Boomers – How to Date in an Older Age

Dating at an older age often becomes the reality for many. Whether you become widowed or simply find yourself divorced at an older age, getting back into the dating scene can seem like an impossible task.  Realize, however, that there are many people your age who are learning how to date again.  The following are 20 dating tips for baby boomers.

  • Give yourself time. Make sure that you are ready to start dating before you jump into it.  Old wounds need time to heal.
  • Be confident. Don’t sell yourself short. Be confident that you can and will find someone to date.
  • Don’t be scared. Don’t let dating scare you.  Dating at an older age is really not all that different from when you were younger.
  • Get out on the town. Before you ask someone on a date, get out on the town to see what it has to offer. You may just find someone while on your journey.
  • Go on blind dates. Be open and willing to be “set up” with people.  Many people have met the perfect someone by going on blind dates.
  • Consider online dating. Many baby boomers are opting for online dating as opposed to the real dating scene.  Have you tried it?  It is an interesting and unique way to find love.
  • Focus on being attractive. If you want a date, you need to look the part.  Focus on making yourself appealing.  This is the perfect time to find the old you!
  • Find companionship in old friends. Do you have old friends who may be divorced or single? If so, don’t be afraid to ask them on a date.  It is easier to go on a date with someone you know.
  • Look for someone with similar interests. Someone who has similar interests as you do will be more fun to date. Focus on finding someone with similar interests as opposed to going for looks.
  • Be clear on what you expect from the relationship. If you aren’t looking to get serious, be sure to let your date know.  This way the two of you can be perfectly clear on what the ultimate outcome of the date will be.
  • Realize that you may get some opposition from your children. If you older, your children may be reluctant to accept that you are dating.  Talk to them beforehand and let them know that you will be dating once again.
  • Things have changed! Realize that times have changed.  What was fun years ago may not be fun now!
  • Watch out for rebound relationships. Be sure that you aren’t on the rebound or the victim of a rebound relationship. Find out all you can about the history of your date.
  • STD alert! Yes! You do need to worry about this. Even older adults have them.  Ask questions up front.
  • Health problems may be a factor in the relationship. As you age, you will have more and more health problems. So will your date. Be clear and up front about health problems.
  • Don’t settle for less than you deserve. Don’t just date whomever. Be choosy! Find the perfect mate for you.
  • The more social you are the better chances you have of finding someone special. Attend social gatherings in an effort to meet more people.
  • Don’t be afraid to flirt a little. Let others know that you are available by turning on the charm.  Look for opportunities to be flirty.  However, you want to make sure they are available first.
  • Try not to mention your ex. If you spend the entire date talking about your ex, it will never work out.  Mention your past briefly but do not dwell on it.
  • Have fun! Dating can be a fun experience if you allow it to be. Calm your nerves and enjoy yourself. Finding the perfect mate for you may take some time but it is very possible.
If you are a baby boomer looking to spruce up your dating skills, use the tips above to help you.  Just because you are older doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun dating.
